What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material the body gradually absorbs. It is approved to correct shallow to deep smile lines (nasolabial folds), fine lines and wrinkles in the cheek area, and other facial wrinkles. Because it works with your body’s own collagen, it’s often described as a collagen stimulator rather than a classic filler.
If you’re still comparing options, our article on Botox vs. dermal fillers explains how different injectables work.
How Sculptra Stimulates Collagen
After it’s injected into the deeper layers of the skin, the PLLA microparticles prompt your body to produce new collagen around them. As the material is slowly absorbed, the collagen stays behind, helping restore structure and firmness. That’s why changes appear gradually and tend to look natural rather than “done.”
What to Expect From Your Sculptra Treatment
Every plan starts with a professional consultation. During your visit, we evaluate your skin, facial structure and goals to determine whether Sculptra is a good fit for you, or whether another option from our fillers and injectables or facial contouring menu may serve you better.
- Number of sessions: Many people complete a series of about two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart, but your plan depends on your needs.
- Timeline: Some swelling right after treatment can make the area look fuller for a few days. The collagen-driven change builds gradually, with improvement seen as early as one month in clinical studies.
- Common side effects: Swelling, tenderness, redness, bruising or itching at the injection site are the most common. Small bumps under the skin can also occur.
Sculptra isn’t right for everyone. It should not be used by people allergic to any of its ingredients or with a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring, and its safety hasn’t been established during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Be sure to share your full medical history during your consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions About Sculptra
How long do Sculptra results last?
In clinical studies, results lasted up to two years. How long yours last can depend on factors like age, lifestyle, sun exposure and how your skin responds.
How much does Sculptra cost in Homestead?
The cost depends on how many sessions and how much product your treatment plan requires, so it’s different for each person. After your evaluation, we’ll walk you through your personalized plan and its investment.
Is Sculptra the same as a dermal filler?
Not exactly. Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume right away, while Sculptra works gradually by stimulating your own collagen. Some people benefit from one, the other or a combination, which is something we decide together in your consultation.
